2018 YOUTH PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD WINNER IS JEFF ALLEN

Jeff Allen, PGA, has been named the recipient of the 2018 Youth Player Development Award in the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  Allen was elected to membership in the PGA of America in 2016 and has not wasted any time in making an impact on junior golf.  The Youth Player Development Award bestows special recognition upon a PGA Professional who has displayed extraordinary and exemplary contribution and achievement in this field.

MIKE DAYLEY HONORED AS 2018 RECIPIENT OF THE BILL STRAUSBAUGH AWARD

Mike Dayley, PGA Head Professional at Blackfoot (Idaho) Golf Course, has been selected by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA as the 2018 recipient of the Bill Strausbaugh Award.  Dayley, a 36-year member of The PGA of America, was honored with this award for the first time as a member of the Rocky Mountain Section.  Established in 1979, the Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to a PGA Professional who, by their day-to-day efforts, has distinguished themselves by mentoring their fellow PGA Professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to their community.

 

LUCAS BRICK SELECTED AS ROCKY MOUNTAIN SECTION PGA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AWARD RECIPIENT

PGA Professional Lucas Brick of Hailey, Idaho, has been selected by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA as the 2018 recipient of the Player Development Award.  Brick, a nine year member of The PGA of America has been honored as such to recognize his extraordinary contributions and achievements in the area of Player Development.  This award considers the Professional’s “Growth of the Game” leadership commitment at Section and National levels and the impact made at his/her own facility.

RMSPGA 2018 PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

Winning one of the Rocky Mountain Section PGA Player of the Year Awards is simple, just play better than everyone else.    2018 was a year for dominance as this year’s winners exhibited fine play throughout the entire season.  The Section recognizes its players of the year in three categories:  The Player of the Year,  Senior Player of the Year, and Women’s Player of the Year.  The Section wishes to thank OMEGA for it's support for our Players of the Year.

 

LUKE SESTERO IS THE 2018 RMSPGA ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

Luke Sestero, PGA Assistant Professional at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho, has been named the 2018 Assistant Professional of the Year for the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  The Assistant Professional of the Year Award is an honor paid to a Rocky Mountain Section PGA assistant golf professional who has distinguished themselves through his/her service to the facility, Section/Chapter and community.  Sestero began his career at Crane Creek in 2011 and this is his first Section honor as a PGA Professional.

 

MILTON, MILLS, BREAUX ARE 2018 MERCHANDISERS OF THE YEAR

The Merchandiser of the Year Awards are presented to individuals who excel in their abilities to purchase, present and sell golf-related products in the most effective and attractive way possible while providing a high level of service to the customer at their respective golf facilities.  PGA Professionals Paul-David Milton from Huntsman Springs (Private), Tate Mills from Elkhorn Golf Club (Resort), and Jerry Breaux from BanBury Golf Course (Public) will be honored at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation next May.

 

JONATHAN GIBBS IS 2018 HORTON SMITH AWARD HONOREE

Jonathan Gibbs, PGA Teaching Professional at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, has been selected by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA as the recipient of the 2018 Horton Smith Award.  The Horton Smith Award is presented to a PGA member for his outstanding contributions to professional education.

 

PAUL WEYLAND HONORED AS 2018 RMSPGA TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Paul Weyland, the PGA Director of Instruction at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho, has been named the 2018 Teacher of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA.  The Teacher of the Year award bestows special recognition on a Rocky Mountain Section PGA golf professional that has performed outstanding service as a golf instructor. The honoree is chosen based on his or her performance, leadership, image, promotion of the game of golf, and impact on teaching and golf instruction as well as their involvement in junior activities at their facility in addition to innovative contributions to golf instruction and published articles.

 

JOHN VAN VLEET IS THE 2018 RMSPGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

The Rocky Mountain Section PGA has named PGA Professional John Van Vleet from Preston, Idaho, its 2018 Golf Professional of the Year.  Van Vleet is a 21-year member of the PGA of America serving five clubs during his career and has been a fixture at Preston Golf & Country Club the last 14 of those years as General Manager.  The PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award is the highest honor paid to a PGA professional.  The honoree is chosen based on his or her outstanding leadership abilities, exceptional performance as a PGA Professional, and distinguished service to the Association and the game of golf.

BRYSON REPEATS - GRAHAM IS SENIOR MATCH PLAY CHAMP

Ben Bryson, PGA Head Professional at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, defeated Boise’s Falcon Crest Golf Club PGA Head Professional Ryan Nielson 3 & 2 in perfect conditions to capture the 2018 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship supported by Cutter & Buck, OMEGA & The PGA TOUR.  This repeat victory for Bryson marks the fourth time he has captured the Chapter Championship.  In the Senior Division, John Graham, PGA Head Professional from Sand Creek Golf Course in Idaho Falls won the title beating host PGA Head Professional Mike Hamblin 1 up.  Graham added this senior title to his collection of two other regular division titles in this event.

SNAKE RIVER CHAPTER MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP UNDERWAY

The opening rounds of the Snake River Chapter PGA Match Play Championship supported by Cutter & Buck, OMEGA and The PGA TOUR were contested on a truly magnificent day.  Once the heavy frost went away, stroke play qualifying to determine the top 8 players for Match Play in the regular division and the bracket of 16 in the senior division got underway and saw fine play in Chamber of Commerce weather.
